Man Dead Following Suspected Accidental Shooting on I-640 West

UPDATE (March 6, 2025, 2 p.m.): The victim of the accidental shooting that happened on Wednesday afternoon on I-640 West has been identified as 60-year-old Dennis Noe of Blaine, Tennessee. Noe was a retired Knoxville Fire Department Captain.

The investigation revealed that Noe was driving a Toyota Tundra on I-640 West when a gun that was being handled by two backseat passengers unintentionally discharged. Noe was struck by the gunfire and later pronounced dead at the UT Medical Center.

In consultation with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office, no charges have been filed at this time.

The Knoxville Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating a suspected accidental shooting that happened inside of a car that was traveling on I-640 West on Wednesday afternoon.

At around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, KPD officers responded to I-640 near Millertown Pike to investigate a shooting with a victim. Officers arrived on scene, where the occupant of a vehicle stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, an adult man, was transported to the UT Medical Center in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival at the hospital.

Based on the findings of the investigation, it is believed that another occupant in the vehicle unintentionally discharged a firearm, fatally striking the victim. All of the involved individuals were detained at the scene for questioning.

No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
